DISCOVERING NEW VALUES FOR THE SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION

'' Alchimia del mare '' was a Bachelor's thesis from ISIA Firenze with whom I wanted to enrich my professional formation. Deep personal interest in natural phenomena and in innovative materials that promote sustainable design has allowed me to explore and eventually choose as the subject of the thesis an unusual natural material - algae. Planning for the future requires the discovery of new values. As a first step in tackling this thesis, I created my '' library '' - a database that collects all scientific information. The second part was a practical investigation: testing the process of dyeing at the level of infusion (dye bath) with macroalgae (Dulse, Hijiki, and Kombu) and extracting the pigment from microalgae (Spirulina).

The textile is the second most polluting industry in the world, and huge percentage of industrial water pollution comes from textile dyeing and treatment.

This thesis is inspired by the revolution of values and it’s well known that fashion industry is very adaptable to market conditions. It is a very important industry that has the impact and effects on the millions of people around the world and on our common resources.

True Cost is a documentary film exploring the impact of fashion on people and the planet.
